Snow is on the way to the mountains, according the National Weather Service. The service predicts the fresh powder to start falling Saturday and to continue through Tuesday.

The ski areas have been in need of a new blanket of snow. Crystal Mountain, White Pass and the Summit at Snoqualmie all have a base of 73 inches or less.

Dead Confederate will make a stop at Stevens Pass on Friday afternoon for a performance during it’s West Coast tour.

Stevens Pass is offering 2-for-1 lift tickets Friday. The catch: You have to bring an empty Vitaminwater bottle.

Crystal Mountain hosts its 20th Vertical Express for MS this weekend. The event is designed to raise money for the Heuga Center for Multiple Sclerosis. Teams of three must raise $1,000 and then compete in skiing activities ranging from a scavenger hunt to a giant slalom.

Jimmie Heuga, 1964 Olympic bronze medalist in the slalom, founded the event and is scheduled to appear. The Vertical Express concludes Saturday night with a series of parties at the ski area. For more information, visit skicrystal.com.

Saturday is the Holy Oly Revival snowboard celebration at the Summit. (See the Weekend Getaway for details.) Flow Motion will perform live at the Summit West’s Timberwolf Bar at 9 p.m. Friday.

In British Columbia, Whistler Blackcomb hosts another Olympic test event this weekend. The luge World Cup is Friday and Saturday. Christian Niccum of Woodinville will be competing for Team USA.
