I received email from Steve Davidson, head of Crystal Mountain Outfitters recently. This is the group that provides horseback rides to the high country around Crystal. Steve relayed the following:

We plan to be open starting June 20, 2009, for rides. We’ll be offering rides at Crystal until Sept. 7th. Labor Day that will be our last day.

We’re taking reservations and people interested can reach us by phone at 509-895-9120. We also have someone watching my emails for me so you can email to crystalmountainoutfitters@wildblue.net, but note we don’t have a computer at the Crystal location so it will take some time to get back if you write.

Rides are $30 per hour, per person, $60 for per person for 2 hours, $90 per person for 3 hours. and $160.00 per person for all day. A ride including a fishing trip is $175.00 for the day. For the all day rides you will need to bring a lunch, also, everyone should bring a jacket, and wear some kind of boots to ride in. No backpacks to carry. We can carry some gear for them. Helmets are required for all kids under 18. You can bring your own bike helmet. We do have helmets available. Adults can also do the same. A lot of people have their own helmets and can use them. We don’t permit 2 riders on one horse, and kids must be at least 5 years of age to ride. We can lead the little ones. We can't take credit cards, so cash or check is good. We can take walk-in customers on some days but you really need reservations to ensure a ride.

if you've never ridden a horse or it's been a while, do yourself a favor and go for a ride at Crystal. Those horses and cowboys need to eat.
