The road to Longmire will not reopen by Christmas, as officials at Mount Rainier National Park had previously hoped.
The scale of the work to be done in three spots could delay the reopening to February, said park superintendent Dave Uberuaga.
Flood damage that caused major road washouts at Sunshine Point and Milepost 5 and the diversion of Kautz Creek has kept the road to Longmire and Paradise closed since 18 inches of rain fell in 36 hours on Nov. 6-7.
