The winter of 2010-11 is shaping up to be a big one for Washington skiers and snowboarders.

The Summit at Snoqualmie announced Friday that it will install two chairlifts this summer at Summit East. The lifts will reopen a ski area closed since a landslide took out the main chairlift in January 2009. The new lifts will expand the skiable terrain by 65 acres.

The ski area will install a triple lift called the East Peak Triple and a double called Hidden Valley. The Hidden Valley lift will reach terrain that hasn’t been served for 20 years.

The expansion will be the second-largest in the Cascades for next winter. White Pass Ski Area will close Sunday night so workers can begin installing new lifts that will more than double its 635 acres of terrain and add a mid-mountain lodge.

Crystal Mountain is installing a base-to-summit gondola and a new terrain park for next summer.
