We just celebrated our fifth anniversary of having a place in the area, but have visited the area since the 1960s. My first trip was when I was 12 years old. My brother in law brought his son and me up to spend a night camping in the woods. A year later the ski school bus carried me and several classmates though Greenwater on the way to Crystal. Ever since then, I was hooked.
How about you, what was your first or first few Greenwater encounters?

My Dad worked for the D.O.T. for a long time, so he was always up here, but even before then, my parents packed up my brother,2 cousins, a picnic basket and usually a dog or two and we would drive up to Paradise, or camp up on 70 road for the weekend. We would bring our Oddyseys up and ride all over, We also used to go to Buck Creek. There is even a home video of my brother and cosuins and I on this huge rock there that became our " fort". We had so many fun times here before we even knew what " Greenwater" was. After I graduated high school, my parents decided to move up here, and I hated it at first because it was so far away, but now I live up here with my family, and my brother lives up here as well. I couldnt think of a better place to raise our kids, or better people to have as friends and neighbors!

Hmmh, the first visit to Greenwater was in 1972 while I was visiting friends in Seattle. Those friends (who also happened to be Louie Gebenini's friends) brought me to Greenwater for a party. There was a firepit in the driveway of the GW Lodge Coffeeshop (which was vacant then). Louie lived in one of the cabins across from the GW Lodge. I remember spending the night upstairs in the empty lodge.
Between '74 and '78 I drove through GW on the way to Crystal. Out of curiosity I turned off on the FS 74 road and discovered the ranch. In October '78 we bought a cabin and the rest is history. We've been here since '78 and don't have any plans to leave anytime soon.
