Starting Saturday there will be limited access to the Southwest corner of Mount Rainier National Park near Ashford.
The park, closed since being ravage by flooding Nov. 6-7, will offer access to a trail and West Side Road.

Visitors can park at the Nisqually entrance on Highway 706 and hike one mile into the park to West Side Road and the Boundary Trail.

West Side Road is a popular destination for Nordic skiers and snowshoers. The trail to the road will be flagged and open seven days a week until the park reopens.

The hikes are only recommended for people in good physical condition, park officials said.

The park will offer daily walking tours of the flood damage.

The park also plans to offer escorted walks to West Side Road on Sundays.

The $15 entry fee will be waived.

Vehicle access to Longmire and Paradise is not expected to be available until at least March.
