Park officials are hoping to replace the Wonderland Trail bridge over the North Puyallup River by the end of the month. Park officials had to close the bridge in late June because of damage to the structure.
A replacement bridge is scheduled to be flown into the site on July 22. It shouldn’t be long after that before the trail in that stretch will be reopened, said a park spokesman.
Once completed, the new bridge will open up the whole west side of the trail for hikers.
Flood damage done last fall will make completing the 95-mile loop around the mountain difficult at best. The park is not issuing any permits to do the entire trail this season.
