A ban on burning forest and yard debris will take effect at midnight Friday in Pierce, King, Kitsap and Mason counties and on lands regulated by the state Department of Natural Resources.

Allowed:

• Recreational campfires in approved fire pits on private land with the landowner’s permission.

Not allowed:

• Campfires larger than 3 feet in diameter.

• Campfires located within 10 feet of vegetation, including overhanging branches.

Also:

• All campfires must be constantly attended by a person with a shovel and a functioning water hose or 5 gallons of water. (emphasis added by Webmaster)

“This ban will be in effect throughout the summer until we receive a substantial level of sustained rain,” King County Fire Marshal John Klopfenstein said Wednesday.
