Seasons Greetings!
Just a reminder to all motorized recreational users - Snowmobiles or ORV's (non-street licensed motorcycles, ATV's, Quads, go-karts, gators, etc) are not allowed on any public roadway (in the Greenwater community the only non-public owned road is Lumpy Lane) nor on any of the public and private lands surrounding the immediate housing areas.
Hancock Lands are specifically closed to all motorized use outside of permit-issued vehicles.
Snowmobiles ARE allowed on public roads once the roads are closed to vehiclular traffic due to excessive snow. Snowmobiles are also allowed on US Forest Service lands once there is a minimum accumulation of 2 feet of snow. Depending on your local homeowners association - you may be able to ride your recreational vehicle on your own personal property or property of another if you have the property owner's permission.
There have been some ORV/Snowmobile use issues over the past several years in the Crystal River Ranch and the un-developed lands in the area. The roads in the Crystal River Ranch and Crystal Villages are all public roads - so any vehicle operated on the road must be street legal and the operator licensed to operate. Also - snowmobiles are not allowed to be operated on the roadways in the CRR - even if just transiting from a residence to the USFS 75 road. Sorry - no exceptions.
Please do not park vehicles and/or vehicles with trailers in the CRR on the short connector road off of Alpine Drive that cuts over to the USFS 74 road up the west fork - you will block the only fire hydrant in the region and your vehicle will be impounded for safety reasons.
There have also been some ORV violations occuring on the private property, private timberlands and state owned lands in the area between Greenwater and the residential developments - I have contacted all the land owners of all these lands and at present they DO NOT want ORV use on their properties. The Washington State Department of Natural Resources has also requested that we issue citations to anyone riding on state owned and managed lands between the Greenwater main Fire Station (MP 44 SR 410) and the Greenwater Business District.
The fines for riding on private property or in unauthorized areas is a $101 penalty. State licensing (Over-the-Snow permit and/or ORV Permit) and spark arrestor mufflers are also required when operating recreational vehicles, each also enforced with an additional $101 penalty.
The only authroized area for ORV use in the region are: the Naches Trail (Trail only above the USFS 7065 road) between July 15 and November 15; Frog Mountain Trail ( USFS 74 Road near Martin Gap) - which is limited to 2 wheel motorcycles; and in the USFS Evans Creek ORV area above Carbonado off of SR 165. The Buck Creek/Ranger Creek Airport was closed to all ATV/ORV use in July of 2005.
The Pyramid Creek Snopark (Government Meadows - USFS 70 Road) is currently open for Over-the-Snow tracked vehicles (no wheeled Vehicles). The Sun-Top Snopark (USFS 73 Road - Huckleberry Creek) is for cross country skiers/snowshoers/non-motorized use only!
Remember your snopark permits and please respect private property!
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!
