Consider how long you expect to need to fend for yourself. Many suggest having supplies to last 3 days.

Good luck to all still without power!!

Another great site for disaster preparedness is: http://beprepared.com/Default.asp?

This site has information on food storage, emergency kits, insight articles, recipes, they even have a free catalog.

This recent storm of the century brought into reality how some of us need to re think our emergency supplies and equipment. How prepared are you?

Greenwater Fire and the Pierce County Sheriff's Department are working on a date to present a FEMA disaster preparedness program to the community (the program is entitled "Are you Ready"). This program will provide essential information on getting your family and home ready for disasters.

In addition, at the program we will have a representative from Pierce County Department of Emergency Management who will ask for volunteers to initiate the PC Net Program sponsored by Pierce County. This program assists local neighborhood groups in preparedness for disasters. This program is designed to reduce the demand on emergency service agencies during times of disaster by training and empowering community members in disaster response,

Also - your local disaster response agencies (Greenwater Fire, Pierce County Department of Emergency Management, Washington State Department of Natural Resources, Pierce County Sheriff's Department, Mt. Rainier National Park, Washington State Patrol) are working on a region wide all-hazards disaster and evacuation plan. This plan will be utilized to assist and direct all local residents and the transient recreational community during times of disaster. This plan will incorporate the Wildland Fire Plan that DNR, Greenwater Fire, and the Pierce County Sheriff's Department has been working on and is currently in the final approval process.

Keep watching community bulletin boards for the program announcement. Our tentative plan is to present the program in February or March.
