Before the "Big Blog Crash of '07" I had posted an entry about The Sister Study, a ten-year study of sisters of breast cancer patients. They hope to study both environmental and hereditary statistics of 50,000 women, looking for the links that could just lead to the cure.
This morning I received an email from them, asking us to spread the word again. To date 43,000 women have signed-up (yours truly, in the name of my wonderful survivor sister) so 7,000 more are needed. Especially needed are more African-Americans, Latinas, Asians, Native Americans, women over 65, and women who have had jobs in trade and industry.
You may be eligible to join the Sister Study if -
Your sister (living, deceased), related to you by blood, had breast cancer
You are between 35 and 74 years old
You have never had breast cancer yourself
You live in the U.S. or Puerto Rico
The study involves questionnaires, phone interviews, and in-home exams and blood-draws every year or so. Compared to what our sisters went through, this is nothing...but it could be HUGE in promise for the future and wiping out breast cancer. Auntie Sam needs YOU!!
To JOIN TODAY or learn more about the Sister Study, visit the web site www.sisterstudy.org in English or www.estudiodehermanas.org in Spanish. You may also call 1-877-4SISTER (877-474-7837), English and Spanish. All study materials are available in Spanish. Deaf/Hard of Hearing call 1-866-TTY-4SIS (866-889-4747).
