If you’ve ever thought about strapping on a pair of snowshoes, the Tacoma REI store has a program for you.
Snowshoeing is a good way to experience the beauty of the Northwest during the winter, and there are plenty of places to go in Western Washington.

Participants in the free session will learn about the initial skills needed to get on the trails, what gear will make snowshoeing comfortable and fun, and good places to go to get started.

Later this winter, snowshoe treks will be offered at Mount Rainier National Park and in the Snoqualmie Summit area in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.

If you are new to the sport, renting snowshoes would be a good option. A number of South Sound businesses offer rentals.

The class will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The store is located at 3825 S. Steele St., Tacoma.

For more information, call the store at 253-671-1938.
