Mt. Baker will open for skiing on Thursday after a storm dropped 17 inches of snow on the slopes last night. It's among the first ski areas to open in the state (Mission Ridge opened on Friday with extensive man-made snow).
Crystal Mountain hopes to open on Saturday with limited operations if storms this week bring enough snow. Stevens Pass hasn't set an opening date yet; White Pass got about 10 inches of new snow last night but needs more.
At Mt. Baker, the White Salmon base area and chairs 3,4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 will be open on Thursday. Before last night's storm, Baker had a base of about 15 inches; more snow is forecast for Wednesday and Thursday. More information: www.mtbaker.us
