Has been closed since the recent flooding. The west fork of the Whiter river received a serious and dramatic remodeling by mother nature. The flooding carved, re-carved, and re-carved the river channel. In many places the river channel now runs hundreds of yards from where it ran only a few weeks ago. There are thousands of downed logs in the channel. Beware! The silt soil is highly water saturated and behaves like quicksand. The FS-74 roadway has 2 primary washout areas. One about 2.5 miles from SR-410. The washout is about 10 yards long and the river has removed a part of one lane of asphalt. At about 6.5 miles from SR-410 there is a about 100 yards of roadway that has been destroyed by the river. (image below).
FS-74 is closed at the lower gate, about .5 miles from SR 410.
