I contacted Pierce County about the load ratings for the roof of our place in Greenwater. Our place was built in 1998 and according to County records, the roof and deck are load rated for “live” loads of 100 lbs to 150 lbs per square foot. Other houses built around this time would be about the same.

To get an idea of how much snow that translates to, I weighed a 1’x1’ column of snow Sunday (2-10) on my deck. It weighed in at about 58 lbs and was about 3.25’ tall. While that is well within the load rating, should the snow on the roof slide and hit the deck, it would easily exceed the load rating by a substantial amount…..
