Greenwater has a new phone book! After countless volunteered hours of highly detailed and painstaking work by Wendy Scholl and Teresa Steel, the 2008 Greater Greenwater phonebook is available at stores in Greenwater.

The recent Valentine’s Potluck, Dance, and photo shoot was a great success! I heard that once the lights went down and the music was turned up, there was quite a party. Thanks to Bret Van Ostrum for his photographic skills, Seth of Greenwater Outfitters for playing DJ and the many who helped setup and clean up after.

The recent Lonesome Lake Cookout was an outstanding party. I hear there were people at the event from it’s 10:00 AM start until around 1:00 AM the next morning. A variety of foods and desserts were presented and a great time was had by all. We hope to have photos and notes soon.

There was wide discussion about what may be a suitable memorial to Marian Parker. Marian, who recently past away, was long term resident of Greenwater and also a contributor to the Greenwater Community Center for 30 years. Council member Tom Mavin has been working put a highly durable finish on a wood bench formerly used by Marian and her husband Tom. Once done, it will be made as part of a suitable outside gathering location at the Community Center. Another Council member said he’d work on a suitable ash tray for the site, after the site was selected. Long time friends of Marian said that would be a great tribute to her!

After the snow has cleared and the temps have warmed up a bit, there will be a memorial plaque mounted by the flagpole at the Community Center and Fire Station to commemorate Shayne Wyrsch (see http://explore-greenwater.com/community/showthread.php?t=199) . Shane was a Law Enforcement officer for the US Forest Service and provided great assistance to the entire community. Shane was killed by a drunk driver. His loss was devastating for his family and for Greenwater where he was a great asset to the community. There is an ongoing request for help to assist Shayne’s family. Information can be found http://explore-greenwater.com/community/showthread.php?t=198

Upcoming Community Center events include:

April 5, there will be a pancake breakfast benefit for Ky Loop at the Greenwater Community Center. Ky is fighting cancer. Ky grew up in Greenwater and was the Chef at Enumclaw’s Café Panini. I never met Ky personally, but I found from his web site http://kyloop.com/home that our paths had crossed countless times.

March 29, there will be a Potluck lunch greeting to meet Ian Cannon. Ian is a US Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer. He has been assigned to the same patrol area as was Shane Wyrsch. All are encouraged to come and welcome Ian to Greenwater! Time of the Potluck is 1:00 PM.

There was discussion about this coming December’s Christmas Bazaar. The discussion revolved around coordinating several events in Greenwater, into what we hope will become and official town wide festival. The festival will include a Bazaar, a parade, a multiple Christmas Tree Lighting celebration, followed by a party at Nachees Tavern. It will make for a extravagant winter festival in Greenwater! More information on this event coming.

There was discussion of the Community Center along with the Greenwater Fire Fighters Association hosting what we hope will become an annual 25 mile long bicycle event. The event will take place in May, after Crystal Mountain Ski resort has closed for the season and before Mt Rainier National Park has opened for the season. During this time both Crystal Mountain Blvd and SR-410 are very lightly traveled. Due to this, it makes for a rare opportunity where bicyclists can enjoy this amazing stretch of natural nearly all down hill wonder and old growth forest lined roadway without having to compete with a lot of vehicle traffic.

The Community Center is asking for volunteers to help with a spring cleanup of the Fire Station and Community Center. Anyone wishing to volunteer, contact Leah Tobin at 2223.

Have an idea or suggestion for a community party event or something of note? Be sure to send them to one of the Council members, leave a note here, or better yet, come to the meeting yourself. Council meetings are the 2nd Wednesday of each month, at 6:30, all are encouraged to attend.
