On April 5, 2008 starting at 6 AM and until Noon there will be a pancake breakfast benefit for Ky Loop at the Greenwater Community Center.

Ky is fighting cancer. Ky grew up in Greenwater and was the Chef at Enumclaw’s Café Panini. I never met Ky but I found from his web site http://kyloop.com/home that our paths had crossed countless times.

Here is a short excerpt from his site: Greenwater friends are like family—it was as if the boys had dozens of cousins and some of the friendships bonded in those early years just grow stronger with time. The teachers at Enumclaw used to remark how the “Greenwater Kids” took care of each other. If one of the little ones got hurt on the playground, one of the older ones would tend to him or her. It was a remarkable time and a remarkable place.

In the spirit of helping our extended family, if you can, come by the Breakfast event or leave a donation at most any shop in Greenwater.

Thanks!!!!

My heart has always been with my "family" from Greenwater. Though sometimes our family members, like me, need to leave our homes in Greenwater, the memories we carry of our extended family will sustain us through the years to come. Knowing my loved ones from my Greenwater family have come forward to embrace and help Ky through this challenge fills me with joy, hope and comfort that I can never explain. Just know that when you need me, I will be there for you. I am so thankful for each of you and the friendship we have shared through the years!

Love to you all,
Berta

The Pancake breakfast for Ky Loop on April 5, had a really good, even a really great turn out! I don’t know the exact numbers but there were well over 100 folks who came to the Community Center to have breakfast and spend some time together. The event started at about 6 AM and continued until after noon. I spent a good part of the day there, helping in the kitchen and was touched to see the large turnout. Late in the morning, Ky Loop came over to join the crowd. Many of his friends were responsible for organizing the event, as well as spending a lot of time and their own money to help move the event foreword. Ky sincerely thanked each of them. Ky is looking good. He said he had gone through his 3rd round of chemo and had not started to feel the major ill effects of the therapy.

None of is would want to be stricken by Cancer. It takes supreme bravery to confront and fight this kind of battle. In addition to being very brave, having a large group of friends and supporters turn out to help and contribute has got to be one of the greatest experiences one could ever have. In our darkest hours, having a single friend can change our world. Having over a hundred friends offer support is awe inspiring. While term “community support” seems like a relic from another time, it is breathtaking to see so many people who care. This kind of event can re-affirm one’s faith in humanity.

Ky still needs your assistance. He has no insurance and if you can afford to make a small contribution, or even if you can’t kindly take a moment to visit his site: http://kyloop.com/donate

Hang in there Ky, we’re all sending our best hopes and prayers!
