For anyone interested in a comprehensive history of Mount Rainier National Park, I highly recommend WONDERLAND: An Administrative History of Mount Rainier National Park by Theodore Catton (May 1996). It is filled with dates & details not found elsewhere, and if you enjoy park history, it's a very good read.

It is very difficult to find in hardcopy, but is available online at http://www.nps.gov/archive/mora/adhi/adhi.htm

Thanks for the post! This is an excellent resource!! I recently started reading a book called Wilderness & The American Mind. It is the story of the perceptions towards wilderness areas and how they developed and changed over time. It is a fairly heady book, but well worth the read. Once I get through this I’ll look at the on line book you provided.

As an aside, I'm delighted by the ever growing number of books available on line. I used to not like extensive reading on a monitor, but they do offer a far better reading position and as the monitors have increased in quality (mostly due to faster refresh rates) and size, the distracting elements have all but disappeared.
