ENUMCLAW — The State Patrol says an accident that has closed Highway 164 between Enumclaw and Auburn is worse than expected.
A pickup ran off the Auburn-Enumclaw Highway about 4:20 a.m. and hit a natural gas line causing a leak.
State Patrol spokesman Cliff Pratt says the hissing can be heard from about 1,000 feet away. He says repairs crews aren't able to turn it off; they'll have to use heavy equipment to dig down to the line.
Firefighters are monitoring the gas. Six people have been evacuated from two homes.
Pratt says if the repair crew has to dig up the highway, it could be closed for days.
The 19-year-old woman who was driving the pickup suffered a minor head injury and is being investigated for drunken driving.
