I've come across 5 cases recently where IE 7 will hang due to a couple of circumstances. One is when opening a saved internet shortcut or link from the desktop, and the other is when IE7 opens. I spent several hours on the phone with Microsoft support and they don’t have a remedy at this time. Their suggested solution is to uninstall Internet Explorer 7.
Also, beware that IE7 is now listed as a “priority update” at Microsoft’s Windows update site. If you run the update routine, it will automatically install IE7. The solution in this event is to uncheck the selection to download and install IE7
If you have problems, the only current solution is to uninstall IE7 and give MS a few months to work out the bugs. It is a shame that they have hurried this product to market despite the inability of their tech support personnel to provide a remedy.
